The new year is nearly upon us, and it's time for millions of people across the globe to begin making their new year resolutions. Making a resolution is easy, but keeping a resolution is hard. Try out one of these simple and achievable resolutions that you can keep without too much effort. Even small changes and promises to yourself will improve your life immensely.
Resolutions that will improve your life without too much effort
- Lose weight - this is probably the most common resolution, and the hardest one to keep. Instead of setting a weight goal, try to encourage yourself to simply get healthier. Don't obsess over numbers on the scale. While losing weight can definitely help you to feel better and get healthier, try losing weight in a healthy way rather than with a fad diet.
- Go to the gym - make the gym a habit, but don't give up! Even once your motivation is gone, keep disciplined so you don't end up with the majority of January gym-goers who give up by February.
- Take up a sport - Not in to Football or Baseball? Try out swimming, badminton, hiking, or even golf. Get more active! You might find a brand-new sport that you really love!
- Start jogging - Try jogging short distances at first. Don't push yourself too hard on your first day. Keep it up, and you might be surprised to learn that you actually come to like jogging!
- Learn how to cook - Everyone should know how to cook a few healthy recipes. Cooking helps you to eat healthier, save money, and have more delicious food! No time? Try out a slow cooker or crock pot recipe.
- Get a new hobby - Trying out something new will help you to relax, have more fun throughout the year, and keep your mind sharp. Try to pick up a hobby that you otherwise might have overlooked.
- Volunteer - Spend some time helping others this year. Giving back and donating your time and energy to volunteering can make you feel happier and more grateful.
- Practice meditation - Even five minutes of meditation practice a day can boost your health benefits in amazing ways. Meditation is good for body, mind, and soul.
- Wake up earlier - Challenge yourself to wake up earlier and be more productive in the new year. Don't start super early, but rather make your wake up time just a tiny bit earlier every week until you hit your goals.
- Lower your stress levels - Lower stress in general leads to a healthier life. Whether you pick up meditation, try to practice gratitude, or add extra exercise to your daily routine, a low-stress you will be an overall happier and healthier you.
- Give up soda - We all love soda, but it's got no redeeming health value. This year, try replacing soda with a healthier alternative to help you lose weight and feel better.

- Practice gratitude - Studies have shown that being thankful for what you have and counting your blessings can help you to be happier. On January 1st, begin a "gratitude list". Sometimes, all we need to do is take the time to reflect on them.

- Keep a journal - Keeping a record of the year can help you remember all of the happy times that you have experienced, and can help you process the sad times in a healthy way.
- Be on time - Some of us really struggle with being punctual. In the coming year, make an effort to be more reliable and dependable. Being able to budget your time, and keep track of your tasks and schedule, is a sign of maturity. Nobody likes to be kept waiting, so let's all try to do our parts to be more punctual this year.
- Discover your family tree - Connect with your roots by ordering a genetic DNA test, setting up an online family tree, and interviewing your relatives for information and stories about their parents and grandparents. It might even make your family grow closer together as you discover your family history.
- Quit social media - Social media can be linked to depression and stress. Cutting it out (or at least cutting back) can vastly improve your mood, confidence, and sense of worth.
- Drink more tea - Instead of drinking that second cup of coffee, pick up a mug of hot tea instead. Slowly replacing your daily coffee with healthy and energy-providing tea can be a great resolution.
- Stay hydrated - Are you drinking enough water? Probably not! Drinking enough water (and cutting back on caffeine) will make you feel much healthier every day.
- Work on getting good quality sleep - Fall asleep faster and wake up earlier. Take it slowly! You don't need to wake up super early right off the bat. Ease into it, and feel how much more time you will have in your day.
- Learn yoga - The health benefits of yoga speak for themselves! Live longer, be healthier, and keep fit through low-intensity and super healthy yoga practice.
- Try out a new craft - Being crafty can help your coordination and provide mental stimulation. It can also be fun to take up a hobby and create something new by hand.
- Discover your hometown - Become a tourist in your own hometown. Check out more local events, visit local museums and historical sites, and get to know your local area like never before. You may be surprised about how many amazing adventures await just around the corner. Try to discover a new place every month.
